These weekly blog posts will consist of updates pertaining to my genius hour project. For my project, I have chosen to combine two things that I love: baking and giving back. I will be baking sweet treats each week and then donating the baked goods to deserving people and/or organizations in my community. Some of the recipients may include churches, schools, fire departments, and the police department.
During the duration of this project, I will be learning how to perfect my baking skills. I will be trying more advanced and challenging recipes that I would not try on a regular basis. This project will force me to get out of my comfort zone and talk to people I don’t know very well. Every week I will make something different to give away. I will also try to challenge myself to give back to a different organization. Week 0 and week 1 I will be preparing and setting up for my project. This week (week 0), I will simply be going over the logistics of my project and explaining it. Week 1, I will make my game plan. This game plan will consist of the recipes I will be making each week, checking the ingredients list and making sure I have access to them and/or they are affordable, and then deciding which organization I will donate to. The weeks following, I will be carrying out my game plan. Each week, I will bake my treats and then deliver them to an organization of my choice. A few difficulties I may run into along the way is trying to find organizations to donate to, since some have specific rules and regulations about homemade treats. However, if that does happen, I will just donate to an organization that I have donated to in the past. I also might run into problems in the kitchen. Therefore, this project will involve a lot of trial and error. The ultimate goal of my project is to pay it forward to organizations in my community, who may at times feel unnoticed and unappreciated for their efforts. I will share my experiences through my blog posts. For me to consider my project as a success, I will hopefully improve on my baking skills, but most importantly, I will make people in my community feel loved and appreciated for their hard work. I am very excited to get started on my project. It should be a fun and rewarding experience. I look forward to sharing my progress through my blog each and every week!
